The Doctor’s Advice – on Persistence

You can read about my Internet journey on the special page here I’ve set aside to tell that story. However, during my journey I was reminded of a life-lesson that I learned many years ago. And it’s worth sharing here.

Many people speak of the importance of persistence in any endeavor that we’re serious about. One of my favorite quotes comes from the 30th President of the USA, Calvin Coolidge, who said:

Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.

As I said – this is one of my favorite quotes. However, there are two types of persistence – positive and negative. And success will only be achieved with positive persistence.

Negative persistence is akin to stubbornness. It’s when we keep on going on the same track, no matter what. This might be in business, in a personal circumstance, in holding fast to a certain position in a conflict, and the list of situations can go on. Negative persistence will usually end up in some form of grief.

Positive persistence, on the other hand, is when we persist towards a certain goal and persist in letting our intuition tell us the right way to get there.

This is what happened during my internet business journey. My goal of becoming a successful internet, information marketer has never waivered. Even so, initially I started up many different niches. With each one, I would listen to my intuition and if it didn’t feel right, I’d immediately try another niche.  Had I persisted when my gut said no – that would have been negative persistence.  So i started on one niche, and then another, and another, and another. Finally I came to my strategic-storytelling/story-based selling niche. And the moment I got there – I was 100% congruent that this is the right path to following.

As always, I used Positive Persistence – I persisted with my goal, and persisted with letting my intuition guide me.

Wow! Haven’t you come a long way!

I remember a rather plaintiff comment on my site not all that many months ago about how you were struggling to come to grips with all this internet ’stuff’. And just look at you now.

Congratulations, Kashonia, you’ve found your niche and you’re on your way.

I loved the Calvin Coolidge quote and have added it to the newly created ‘Words of Wisdom’ section on my site. Thanks for that.

Creating a message that chimes with your audience is what Frank Kerns is about. You should look him up if you have not already done so.

All the best in everything that you do.

Best regards

DAN Left a comment which for some reason won’t show up even though I approved it.
So here it is with my response just in case others feel the same way as Dan

“His quote was ‘men’, not ‘people’. Please quote his quote correctly”
Dan

RESPONSE:

Dan you are right I should have used the word “men” with [sic] after it.
When Coolidge wrote that quote women’s persistence wasn’t considered as important.

However, I’m sure that if Coolidge was writing/saying that today he would have used the word people and not just men.
