I met Dr Wendy Sarkissian when I was a Doctoral student. She came to my university – The University of Queensland – and gave a talk about some of her life experiences that led her to write her own Doctoral thesis. There were so many similarities between Wendy’s life and her passion for nature and for storytelling, and my own life and passions, that I made sure that I got to know her. And we’ve been friends ever since.
And so it was great to speak with her on my show – “Stories & Sustainability” – because we shared a number of stories and certainly spoke about sustainability.
The sustainability stories included those related to her latest book Kitchen Table Sustainability recently published by Earthscan http://www.earthscan.co.uk/ and co-authored by Nancy Hofer, Yollana Shore, Steph Vajda, and Cathy Wilkinson.
The book shares personal stories, combined with professional and academic knowledge, and practical action steps, demonstrating a “heartfelt care for communities and the Earth”.
Wendy introduced us to the EATING principles, which are a feature of Kitchen Table Sustainability. Education – Action – Trust – Inclusion – Nourishment – Governance. The EATING principles will guide us to a community approach to sustainability.
