This interview started out as a normal one-off talk with social scientist Bob Doppelt. However, by about the 3rd segment of the show it became evident to me that we’d never cover everything that I wanted to cover with this wonderful man. So in a commercial break I asked if he could return for round 2. He agreed. I was then able to focus this entire interview on the current global environmental situation. And then when he returns in 2 weeks time, the plan is to talk about how we can change our thinking and in so doing help to change our world.
Bob Doppelt wears many hats. He’s a writer and speaker on Climate Change issues, involved in numerous committees, and the Director of Resource Innovations and the Climate-Change Leadership Initiative in the Institute for a Sustainable Environment at the University of Oregon.
His latest book, The Power of Sustainable Thinking: How to Create a Positive Future for the Climate, the Planet, Your Organization, and Your Life (2008, Earthscan), formed the basis for today’s talk.
I first “discovered” Bob in about 2003, not long after his first book, Leading Change Toward Sustainability, was published. That book became a major sustainability resource for me when I was an academic teaching MBA students about sustainability. So I knew that this next book, The Power of Sustainable Thinking was going to be a must-read. And I was right.
If you want to find out some more about sustainability and what’s happening on our Planet today, then both of Bob’s books are a must.

and listen to this first part, and then make sure to be listening to part 2 in 2 weeks time.
