Acres of Flowers

The first time I read this wonderfully inspiring story was in a paper written by one of my MBA students some years ago.  Needless to say, the paper was on storytelling.  Since then, I’ve seen it on a number occasions, in a number of different forums.

It tells of a mother and her daughter who came across a garden filled with flowers planted in majestic, swirling patterns, great ribbons, and swaths of deep orange, creamy white, lemon, yellow, salmon pink, saffron, and butter yellow.  Each different-coloured variety was planted in large groups so that they swirled and flowed like its own river with its own unique hue. There were five acres of flowers.

Wondering who did this and how, they found a notice which read,

“Planted one at a time, by one woman. Two hands, two feet, and one brain.”

The story inspired all those who visited to keep progressing toward their goals, “one bulb at a time”.
